About
I started this site as an offline knowledge base for myself to learn Bushcraft. I wanted a 'base' that I could constantly add to as I learned to refer back to. I know a little html and CSS (the 'code' behind webpages) and so I thought this would be a good medium to utilise. The use of hyperlinks between articles that are in some way related is very useful, along with the ease of adding pictures, text, tables, etc.
After a short while of research, I realised I didn't know what a lot of the trees, plants and fungi being mentioned were. So, I decided I need to gain this basic knowledge at the same time and so these were added. Due to the fact I had used html, and I already had webspace I decided to upload the 'site' to the web and pretty it up. The only thing missing was a domain name (web address) ….
My name is Graham. Hello! I had named the folder on my computer "Grayt Outdoors" as a play on "Gray" being short for "Graham". The domain was available and as good as anything else I could come up with so here we are!
The original logo was mocked up from the template I have used from the start (see acknowledgements) and its intended to look like a fire (not mountains, but I'm cool with that too) and it's a play on the cathedral from my hometown in the midlands. I later got this updated, just to look a little more professional than my pathetic graphics skills.
Now it has become an online venture I have mainly been concentrating on the site functionality and look, with input from friends and family with an aim to start adding content and learning along the way.
I am based in the UK but most of the trees are found all around the world are not native to the UK. I will find flora abroad down the line. One step at a time. ;-)
Hope you enjoy the site.
